NEW COLUMBIA - Janet M. (Smith) Ranck, 96, finished her life’s journey on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born on November 4, 1929 in Milton and was the daughter of the late Gordon and Helen (Kelly) Smith. Janet attended the Milton Schools, worked at American Home Foods for 36 years and retired in 1992.
Janet married the late Cecil G. “Pete” Ranck on June 15, 1946 in New Columbia and they celebrated 46 years together until his death on January 16, 1993. They enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. They especially loved their trips to Myrtle Beach, S.C. Through the years, the most important thing in her life was family and friends.
She is survived by her children; George Ranck of Ladson, S.C., Ira (Crystal) Ranck of Milton, Corinne Ranck, Teresa Bowersox and David (Florence) Ranck all of New Columbia, her grandchildren; Terri Lee, Christopher, Tom, Nikki, Brian, Philip, Tracie, Christy, Clinton, Nathaniel and Devin, step-grandchildren; Cory and Lisa, 18 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, sisters; Kay Brown of Lewisburg, Alice Ann Gessner of Milton and Bonnie (Denny) Moser of Danville and her beloved cat; Tigger.
In addition to her parents and husband, Janet was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law; Gordon (Linda) Ranck, granddaughter; Jeanette McKnight, sons-in-law; Terry Bowersox and John Reedy, daughters-in-law; Barbara and Candie Ranck, sisters; Nancy Armstrong and Lenora Russell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wellspan Hospice, 235 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837. The family would like to thank everyone for the wonderful care given to their mom and all the new friends that she made.
A viewing will take place on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. at Dale Ranck Cremation & Funeral Care, 125 N. Front Street, Milton followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 A.M. with The Reverend Ricky Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia.
