Joyce Hendershot

March 26, 1931 — December 16, 2018

Lock Haven

Joyce Marie (Showers) Hendershot went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 16, 2018.

Joyce was born on March 26, 1931, and was the oldest child of the late George W. and Arla R. (Solomon) Showers.

Joyce married the love of her life, Eugene B. Hendershot, on May 12, 1951, and they enjoyed 49 wonderful years together before he passed in December 2000.  Together they encouraged and raised 5 children:  Debbie (Wayne) Liebscher, Ronald (Debi) Hendershot, Rebecca Hendershot, Virginia (Kirk) Snyder, and Jeffrey (Jenny) Hendershot.  Peg Lowmiller, a good friend of Rebecca, loved her as a mother.

In addition to her children, Joyce was the beloved grandmother to:  Stephen Liebscher, Lindsey (Jeff) Sachs, Joshua (Jenna) Hendershot, Samuel (Karen) Snyder, Angie Snyder, Timothy (Ashley) Snyder, and Thomas (Sarah) Hendershot.  She was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren:  Olivia and Harper Sachs, Lawton Hendershot, Annalise and James Snyder, Ella, Caleb and Makenna Snyder and Lillian and Madalynn Hendershot. She is also survived by one sister, Darlas Yost, and one brother, Norman Showers.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by 2 brothers:  Delbert and Richard Showers.

Joyce graduated from Milton High School. Before starting her family, she was employed as a clerk by Grant’s Department Store, and as a secretary at Bucknell University, and Community Plan.  Joyce treasured her family dearly.  She enjoyed family camping trips and vacations to the shore.  To express her artistic creativity she enjoyed painting and beading and was a talented card-maker.  She also filled her days sewing and knitting, creating garments for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She connected with many across generations on her computer and was adept at word games.  She will be missed dearly by her family and the many whose lives she touched with her generous, kind spirit.
