WATSONTOWN - Michael Dennis Kossar Sr., 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Watsontown, PA on February 8, 2026, surrounded by his family after a long and brave fight with Parkinson’s Disease.

Mike was born on November 3, 1943, to Max and Pearl Kossar in Shenandoah, PA. Mike attended Shenandoah Catholic High School. Upon graduation Mike enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country honorably until his discharge in October 1964. He continued his service in the Navy Reserves until 1967 stationed aboard a “tin can,” the USS Sarsfield.

After his military service, Mike followed many pursuits including trucking, managing Preston Trucking terminals, owning and operating Kossar Contracting, and real estate sales. Mike was a fiercely loyal friend and a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Joanne Kossar, his children, Maria Fisher, and son Michael Dennis Kossar, Jr., his two stepsons, Robert Vitko Jr., and Salvatore Vitko. “Pop-pop” as he was lovingly known is survived by his four grandchildren Dalton Fisher, Gianna Vitko, Ella Vitko, and Jameson Vitko. Mike is also survived by his sister Irene Haywood and his brother Joseph Kossar.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother and father Pearl and Max Kossar, his son Max Kossar, sister Dolores Kossar (of Pennsylvania), and brother Andrew Kossar (of New Mexico).

Mike loved his family and friends, enjoyed the outdoors and peacefulness of the Susquehanna River, and long walks with his dog Shadow

Mike’s family would like to thank Residential Hospice team, Independent Home Health team, the US Veterans Affairs team, and the Dale Ranck Funeral Care team for their compassion and excellent care. As well as the numerous family and friends who supported Mike and the family. In keeping with Mike’s wishes, there will be a private viewing for the family.

All services for Mike will be held privately at the convenience of the family. The Dale Ranck Cremation & Funeral Care, Milton is honored to care for and serve the Kossar family.
