Reverend William J. "Bill" Lynd, III

COAL TOWNSHIP - Reverend William J. “Bill” Lynd, III, died Saturday, December 6, 2025 at his home.

He was born in Pittsburgh and was the son of the late William J. Lynd, Jr. and Karen (Gardner) Lynd, who survives of Aliquippa.

Bill was a graduate of Knoch High School, Class of 1986. He attended Butler County Community College where he earned an associate’s degree in architecture, drafting and design. He then attended Lancaster Bible College where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Bible and Missions. After school, Bill was a pastor in Rupert, WV and Ephrata, PA. He then went on to work for Giant Food Stores and Weis Markets where he served as store manager for several years. Bill was currently employed with Frito Lay for 10 years. He excelled in sales earning various awards including RSR of the year several times.

He was a member of Christ Wesleyan Church, Milton, served as a basketball coach for over 35 years as well as coached the Special Olympics basketball team. Bill was a certified PIAA official. In addition to being an avid basketball enthusiast, he was a dedicated Duke University basketball and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Bill also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.

In addition to his mother, Bill is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law; William Lynd, IV, Daniel and Looknam Lynd and Isaiah Lynd all of Milton, two daughters and one son-in-law; Micayla Lynd of Dalmatia and Mickenzie and Bradley Murphy of Gettysburg, mother of his children; Brenda L. Lynd of Elysburg, one brother and sister-in-law; Andrew and Felis Lynd of Ellwood City and three sisters and brothers-in-law; Cheryl and Dan Kearney of Aliquippa, Tracey and Marwan Touma of Akron, OH and Susan and Darrell Barnes of Mobile, AL.

In addition to his father, Bill was preceded in death by one sister; Karen Lynd.

A public viewing will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. at Christ Wesleyan Church, Davis Chapel, 363 Stamm Road, Milton, PA 17847 followed by a Celebration of Life service at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor Branden Mestach officiating. For those attending the services for Bill, they are asked to use the Davis Chapel entrance. Burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family in Church Hill Cemetery, Lewisburg.
