MILTON - Veronica “Ronnie” Whalen, née Gerich, passed away peacefully at the age of 100 on the afternoon of December 13, 2025, in Danville. Born in Wilkes-Barre, she lived much of her life in Bucks County and her later years in Lewisburg.
Veronica was an inspirational beacon of light in her roles as daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her presence was a constant source of love, comfort, and guidance to all who were fortunate enough to know her. She was preceded in death by her soulmate, Irvin Whalen. The two were engaged after just two weeks and enjoyed nearly 60 years of wedded bliss.
Veronica devoted her professional life to caring for others as a Naval cadet nurse during World War II and later as a registered nurse at Geisinger Hospital. At the Woods School in Langhorne, she cared for individuals with mental disabilities, offering her boundless compassion and nurturing to all of her patients. Her commitment to service and community continued post-retirement when she volunteered at Evangelical Hospital, warmly greeting and guiding patients at the front door until the age of 96.
Admired by all who knew her, Veronica is remembered for her kindness, inner strength, and faith. Her family fondly recalls her arriving at church 15 to 30 minutes early every Sunday. This steadfast habit is an endearing reflection of her devotion, as the church was rarely full. The whole family always remarked that her religious dedication gave her a direct hotline to God, as her prayers for her family were always answered.
She was famous for her sweet tooth, always ready to conspire with the children to enjoy some candy, even if neither of them had yet finished their vegetables.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sister of Saints Cyril & Methodius, 1002 Railroad Street, Danville, PA 17821
