Milton

MILTON - Ruth M. (Hartranft), 87, died Monday, July 20, 2020 at her residence with her family by her side.

She was born in W. Chillisquaque Twp. and was the daughter of the late Fuller D. and Anna P. (Nittinger) Hartranft.

On January 26, 1951 Ruth married the late James K. Weaver and they celebrated 40 years of marriage together until his death on October 12, 1991.

Ruth was a graduate of Montandon High School Class of 1950.  She went on to work for Farmers Best in Lewisburg and the Watson Inn as a waitress and hostess.

She was a member of Montandon Baptist Church and several local card clubs.  She enjoyed being outside, cutting grass, growing flowers, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren but most of all, Ruth loved going to sales with her sister.

Ruth is survived by one son and daughter-in-law; James M. and Jane G. Weaver of Milton, three daughters and two sons-in-law; Sharen L. and Paul McCrea of Loxahatchee, Fla, Mary Beth and Shawn Reeder of Northumberland and Jennifer R. Weaver of Milton, five grandchildren, numerous great and great great grandchildren, one sister; Ellen Pardoe of Lewisburg, one brother-in-law; Nelson Aucker of Millmont and one sister-in-law; Jeanne Hartranft of Indiana.  In addition to her family, there will always be a place in Ruth’s heart for Pam, Deb and her care giver Alicia.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by one daughter; Nancy A. Weaver, two brothers; Carl and Charles Hartranft and one sister; Sara Loftus.

OUR MOM USED TO READ THE OBITUARIES, AND SHE'D WONDER WHAT PEOPLE WOUD

SAY ABOUT HER WHEN SHE WAS GONE.  I OFTEN DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY,

BECAUSE I AM NOT A QUICK THINKER.  I WOULD USUALLY SAY, MOM, I'M SURE

THERE IS MUCH TO BE SAID.

SHE WORKED AT JJ NEWBERRY.  WHENEVER NEW ARGYLE SOCKS CAME IN, SHE GOT A

NEW PAIR FOR UNCLE CARL.  SHE WORKED AT FARMER'S BEST, WHICH WAS ALMOST

A SECOND HOME, AND LATER AT THE WATSON INN.

SHE WAS KIND, LOYAL, AND HARDWORKING.  AND SHE TAUGHT US THAT DOING THE

RIGHT THING WAS NOT ALWAYS EASY, AND COULD COST YOU FRIENDS YOU THOUGHT

YOU HAD.  MY PARENTS BOTH TAUGHT US A GOOD WORK ETHIC, AND EVEN THOUGH

MOM WOULD SAY, WHAT HAVE I TAUGHT YOU?  WE WOULD SAY THAT EVEN THOUGH

YOU MAY NOT HAVE TAKEN US BY THE HAND AND SAID THIS IS WHAT YOU DO, WE

LEARNED MANY THINGS.  WE LEARNED TO BUDGET MONEY, BALANCE A CHECKBOOK,

BAKE AND COOK, PLANTING, CANNING, AND FREEZING.

UNCLE JUNIE USED TO TAKE "THE GIRLS" FOR TRIPS INCLUDING BENEZETTE TO

SEE THE ELK, THE CRAYOLA FACTORY, DAVID LOFTUS'S WEDDING IN CONNECTICUT,

NIAGRA FALLS, OUR SISTER'S WEDDING IN FLORIDA, AND OTHER TRIPS I CAN'T

REMEMBER.  SHE AND I ALSO TOOK A TRIP TO CORNING NY, WHICH SHE ALWAYS

WANTED TO DO.  UNFORTUNATELY, I NEVER GOT TO TAKE HER TO FALLINGWATER IN

PENNSYLVANIA (THE HOUSE DESIGNED BY FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT).

MOM ENJOYED HER TIME AT PACKWOOD VOLUNTEERING TO THE PATRONS INTERESTED

IN THE FEATHERTONES' LIFE.  SHE ENJOYED HER CARD CLUBS WITH AUNT ELLEN

AND WITH AUNT SARA, AND SUNDAY NIGHTS WHEN THEY WOULD ALL PLAY PINOCHLE

AND 500 WITH UNCLE JUNIE AT MILLLER'S BOTTOM.

WE GREW TO APPRECIATE MOM SO MUCH OVER THE YEARS, SHE WAS ONE OF THE

STRONGEST PEOPLE WE EVER KNEW.  SHE RARELY COMPLAINED ABOUT THE PAIN

SHE WAS IN, WHICH WAS GREAT.

THE LAST FEW YEARS WERE HARD ON MOM, SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO DO THE THINGS

SHE ENJOYED.  SHE LIKED TO BE OUTSIDE TO MOW GRASS AND PULL WEEDS. EVEN

THOUGH THESE ARE SIMPLE THINGS TO MOST, IT WAS WHAT SHE LIKED TO DO.

SHE LIKED TO SEND CARDS TO PEOPLE TO LET THEM KNOW SHE WAS THINKING OF

THEM.

MOM BECAME ESPECIALLY SAD THESE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS SINCE SHE COULD NOT

BE AS INDEPENDENT AS SHE WANTED.  SHE GAVE UP DRIVING, THINKING SHE MAY

NOT BE SAFE TO OTHERS ON THE ROAD.  MOM ALWAYS SEEMED TO PUT OTHERS

ABOVE HERSLEF.  SHE DIDN'T LIKE CONFRONTATION, AND WANTED EVERYONE TO

GET ALONG.  IN A PERFECT WORLD THAT WOULD BE SO, PUT PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE.

TIME IS NOT OUR FRIEND, AND IT ALWAYS WINS IN THE END.  WE LOVE YOU MOM,

AND WILL MISS YOU MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER KNOW.
