A fine funeral need not be costly.

The overwhelming feelings of despair, disbelief, shock, and numbness caused by the passing of a loved one cannot be conveyed by mere words. Even when the death is expected, the pain that loss brings can still be devastating.  In truth, no one is completely prepared for the death of someone close to their heart.

During this difficult time, there are decisions to be made immediately, arrangements to be coordinated, and a lot of things to be considered for your loved one’s final farewell. We understand how this may feel overwhelming, especially with the grief you’re feeling over the loss. Please know that we are here to help and support you.

On this page, we’ve put together helpful information to guide you through this process.

NOTIFY PROPER AUTHORITIES

If your loved one passes away while under the care of a facility — such as a nursing home or a hospital — staff from the facility will contact you and notify appropriate authorities themselves.

If the death occurred in the workplace or at home, you will need to get in touch with his/her physician or emergency medical personnel, as the cause of death must be identified and indicated in legal documents.

In the event that no one was present at the time of death, you will need to contact the police before moving the deceased to another location.

CALL THE FUNERAL HOME

There is so much we can help you with so don't delay calling. We will ask if the deceased had made any pre-arrangements and whether or not you’d like for him/her to be embalmed. We will also arrange for the transfer of your loved one’s remains into our care. You may certainly ask any questions you have in your mind during this initial call, but we assure you that when we meet in person, at your home or our office, we will review everything in detail and answer any additional questions.

You will find a helpful list if you click at the top of this page, "Mark Strobel, LFD Answers FAQs" then click the tab, "How can I prepare for the arrangement conference?"

MEET WITH THE FUNERAL DIRECTOR

On your first meeting with us, we will discuss the arrangements for your loved one and whether you prefer cremation or burial. You will be provided a General Price List of itemized charges as well has package options such as our Liberty Funeral Package so you can decide what's best for you. We will cover all the details and options to determine the type of service you would like us to provide. If possible, please bring a favorite photo of your loved one that we might use for the obituary. Most families are very pleasantly surprised at just how much we take care of, things they might never had considered. The trust you place in us we take very seriously. We will do all we can to exceed your expectations.

FILE FOR A DEATH CERTIFICATE

A death certificate is a legal document indicating the cause of death, including other vital statistics pertaining to the deceased, signed by the attending physician, coroner or medical examiner. In the event of a sudden death or when a person had not been under doctor's within 24 hours of passing, a coroner or the county medical examiner will complete a death certificate. We will procure the original local death certificate for you and then obtain certified copies for you, which you will need for anything from life insurance to banking transactions to Veterans benefits to stocks, bonds and other assets. We will review this with you in detail including the cost for certified copies procured from Vital Statistics prior to procuring an appropriate number on your behalf.
